Arriving in Brasilia, Brazil

We arrived last night in Brazil, Brazil. Being tired to terminal and airport life we have decided not to fly again soon. Brazil was the first and the only planned destination of our journey.

Pedro was waiting for us in the airport together with his wife Rosana. It was great to discover that they had not changed at all.

Actually people don't change and they can't change them self. It seems to be us who change the perception of ourselves and support that change by thinking that other people change. A good reason for a little paranoia concerning your friends, huh? :) Not.

We have been talking about going around South-America by car, but let's see. Better enjoy the hospitality of Pedro and see Brazil first. You never know if it's the place we have been seeking for to settle down.

It's around 7am local time. Hard to get rid of working rhythm and realise that I don't have to recover from jet lag instantly. Better go back to sleep with my wife.

Temples of Angkor, Cambodia

The absolute highlight of our travels in South-East Asia has been meeting our friends. First Martijn and Uswa came to see us in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and now Bill and Betty in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Bill and Betty wanted to see the famous temple area of Angkor so we joined the caravan and headed to Siem Reap. The bus ride was slow even though the roads were pretty good. The 225-kilometre-ride took seven hours.

Dear Mr. Niinistö, I am deeply concerned about the current state of affairs in Finland. We left Finland in 2004 to travel the world. We have been living in 102 countries around the world, and travelled through countries devastated by the US, NATO, and Russia. The last three years we lived in Georgia , which is at war with Russia . There is a ceasefire agreement, but a peace accord was never signed. Russia – the second biggest arms exporter in the world right after the US – benefits from such instability.

Trans-Siberian Railway, Russia

Travelling the trans-siberian railway all the way from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok, Russia. And visiting Voguls on the way. We started our Trans-Siberian railway ride from Kuokkaniemi, a small village situated near Sortavala and Finnish border in Karelia. The trip ended in Vladivostok near Japan and Korea totaling well over 10.000 kilometres. It would have been possible to do the trip in about eleven days, but we wanted to stop every once in a while and look around. We bought our tickets one by one, just to the next destination, and got this way a lot of experience of Russian bureaucracy, despotism of the police (militsiya), and the lack of any kind of logic in Russia. We knew right away that our Experiment would at least be challenging. In Santeri’s words: Russia should be avoided at any cost.
