Inserting Power Plugs Into British Sockets Without Adaptor

British sockets (type G) with three pins are used in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Cyprus, Malta, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and parts of the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. You do not need expensive plastic adaptors to use them with European power plugs (type C). A thin pen will suffice.

To insert a European plug with 2 rounds pins into a British socket, all you need is a thin pen. You can open up the socket by pushing the pen into the upper square hole. After that, wiggle in the 2-pin plug to the other holes. When the plug is in, you can remove the pen.

This hack is doable with a small screwdriver as well, but as those tend to be made of metal which conducts electricity, a plastic pen is safer. Or a wooden toothpick.
